Xbox LIVE Beats PlayStation Network in Reader Vote
We had a very hotly contested matchup this week in our long-running Faceoff series, with Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE going up against Sony’s PlayStation Network for favorite online console gaming service. After an astounding 35,055 votes we’re ready to declare the winner…
… and Xbox LIVE takes the win! They’ll obviously get an achievement rather than a trophy for this victory. Just a day or so ago the polls were holding steadily even so it was definitely in the home stretch here that XBLA pulled ahead. The final tally reads 19,858 for Xbox LIVE (57%) and 14,258 for PSN (41%), with a surprisingly small tie vote of only 939 (3%).
Thanks to everyone who voted this week! Were you disappointed with the results? Sound off in the comments!

Online Gaming Faceoff: Xbox LIVE vs. PlayStation Network
It’s time once again to pit two contestants against each other in an all-out battle for the hearts and minds of Mashable readers. In this week’s Web Faceoff, we wanted to get a sense of which online console gaming service Mashable readers prefer: Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE or Sony’s PlayStation Network?
Last week we saw HTML5 take down Adobe Flash in our dynamic web faceoff, and we’ve previously looked at handheld gaming’s big three. But what about the two major online console services: does the totally free PSN hold sway or does the freemium model of XBLA offer a service compelling enough to offset the optional cost many choose to pay?
For many it will simply come down to platform preference, but if you’ve used both services and can vote (and comment) on the relative merits of each individual online component, please do. Check back later this week for the results!

HTML5 Knocks Out Adobe Flash in Reader Vote
A few weeks ago, tensions between Adobe and Apple rose to all-time highs after Apple prominently left Flash off of the iPad. A lashing by Steve Jobs, calling Adobe lazy and Flash buggy didn’t help matters at all.
The problem: Apple believes that Flash shouldn’t be part of the web’s future. Instead, the company believes that HTML5 is what will define the web and would love to see more developers adopt it instead of Flash. Now that big video sites such as YouTube are testing support for HTML5, Steve could be getting his wish.
That’s why we asked you, the readers, to tell us where you stand on the issue. Adobe Flash vs. HTML5: which is better for the future of the web? After over 6000 votes…
…HTML5 handily knocked out Adobe Flash. With 3,891 votes, HTML5 garnered 61% of the polls. Adobe Flash was able to muster 1,779 votes (28%), while 660 said it was a tie (10%).
Next week, we’ll do it all over again with another web faceoff. Be sure to tune in and vote!

Web Faceoff: Adobe Flash vs. HTML5
Every week, we pit two web apps or companies against each other in our web faceoff series. In the past, we’ve put Android vs. iPhone, Digg vs. Reddit, and Windows 7 vs. Snow Leopard order to see which one was truly the people’s choice.
This week, we’re tweaking the competitors a bit. Over the last few weeks, you may have heard about a battle brewing between Adobe and Apple. It all started when Apple slyly revealed that the iPad would not support Flash.
This quickly broke out into a heated debate: Should we be abandoning Flash for HTML5, the new version of the web’s mark-up language that can support video, audio and more? Steve Jobs certainly thinks so.
Now with more people chiming in, we think it’s time to take the pulse of the people.
Which will eventually win out in the end: Adobe Flash or HTML5? Which is better for the future of the web? Do you think Apple has the muscle to take down Adobe’s widely used plug-in?
Make your choice in the poll below, which will close on Friday, February 27, at 12:00 p.m. PT. Then let us know your opinions on this matter in the comments.

Free Beats Premium in Online Dating Faceoff
Valentine’s Day has passed, and now that we have sifted through the roses (and the heartbreak) of the year’s most love-obsessed holiday, it’s time to return to the real world and all of the dating that it involves.
Earlier this week in our Web Faceoff series, we asked you, the readers, to choose between two of the biggest online dating websites out there: Match.com vs. PlentyofFish.
Not only are the two online dating hubs among the biggest in the business, but they also represent two completely different models for finding true love via the web. PlentyofFish prides itself on being free to use and having a large pool of potential mates to meet, while Match.com utilizes heftier subscriptions to filter out the dating pool.
In the end though, PlentyofFish came out as the victor. In the Valentine’s Day edition of the Web Faceoff, PlentyofFish garnered 430 votes (45%) compared to Match.com’s 334 votes, or 35%. There were a lot of ties, though: 187 votes, or a full 20% of you.
Tomorrow we will start anew with yet another web faceoff. We promise it won’t involve roses or sappy V-Day cards.
