Motorola Milestone now available on Telus, AT&T*

Two days earlier than expected, Motorola’s Milestone has become available to the public via Telus Mobility. For Canadians, that means that you can wrap your palms around one of the sexiest Android devices out for as low as $199.99 on a 3-year contract, while it’ll set you back $499.99 with a 2-year deal, $549.99 with a 1-year agreement or $599.99 outright. Americans — you should pay close attention that to last figure. A half dozen Benjamins (not including losses in currency conversion and the trip to go get one) will land you what’s essentially a 3G-enabled Droid for AT&T’s network. You know you need an excuse to go see the Yanks take the ice against the Canucks on Sunday, so you might as well snap up your dream phone before heading back from Vancouver.

*AT&T support hinges on one’s ability to procure a Milestone from Canada, get it back across the border, unlock it and slide an activated AT&T 3G SIM card into it. Godspeed.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Motorola Milestone looks set for February 18 launch on Telus; AT&Ters, get your unlocking pants on

Telus hasn’t yet committed to a date for the release of its mighty Milestone, but no sweat — Best Buy’s happy to commit on their behalf, pegging February 18 as the date that Canadians will have access to their most powerful subsidized Android set yet. That’s really awesome, don’t get us wrong — but the other side of this win-win is that it’ll be the first time that a Milestone has been available with 850 / 1900MHz 3G, meaning this thing could become a boon for anyone willing to whisk a few across the border, assuming it’s not a nightmare to unlock (we doubt it will be). So yes, it’s true, if you really want to wait to get your Android-powered Motorola on through AT&T proper, you can hold out for the Backflip, but considering that the Milestone’s a more juicily-spec’d piece to start, you might just want to swing this way — assuming you’ve got a penchant for hacking and smuggling, of course.

Reversed decision enables Globalive to enter Canada’s cellphone market ‘immediately’

Tired of being badgered by your contemporaries over in the Northwest Angle about having to deal with those silly “three-year contracts?” Buck up, ’cause a new player has just been cleared to go head-to-head with the likes of Telus, Bell and Rogers in the Great White North. In a surprising reversal of an October CRTC ruling, the federal government in Canada has cleared Globalive to begin operations as a wireless cellphone operator in the country. The most amazing part? No changes are required in the outfit’s debt structure or ownership hierarchy. You see, Canada generally requires that its wireless carriers be Canadian-owned, but as it stands, the majority shareholder in Globalive is Egypt’s Orascom. Whatever the reasoning, we’re just stoked to hear that the company can kick open the doors “effective immediately,” and we’re hoping to hear that it’s doing just that in short order.

[Thanks, Martin]

Update: Whoa, that was quick! Looks like WIND (the brand this will all fall under) already has a site ready to rock. No sales or anything yet, but it looks like they won’t be taking this reversal of fortunes lightly. Thanks, Leon!

LG IQ (Monaco) demoed on video, coming to Telus ‘this holiday season’

Clocking in at 1:48, this glimpse at LG’s IQ (a.k.a. Monaco) is indeed very brief and not much is said. It’s got a fingerprint sensor lock, S-class UI (which we knew), and that backing is definitely Windows Mobile 6.5, but for everything else we’ll have to refer to the previous specs we’ve seen leaked. As noted twice by the voice behind the on-screen hand, it’s coming “this holiday season” and will be exclusive to Telus, so all the fine print should be revealed soon. Video after the break.

LG’s Monaco (IQ) spotted in Telus garb, rocking WinMo 6.5 and Snapdragon

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve heard anything about LG’s Monaco, but now it seems as if the wait for this to transition from presentation slide to reality is almost over. Unfortunately, Windows Mobile 7 won’t be onboard as previously rumored, but prospective Telus customers can look forward to LG’s S-Class interface sprucing things up somewhat. Other specs purportedly include a Snapdragon processor, WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, though nitty-gritty details beyond that are nil. Peep that read link if you’re lusting for a few more angles, and don’t kid yourself — you are.

Motorola Milestone headed to Telus in early 2010

You heard the rumors now it’s official: Telus is getting the Motorola Milestone. The Android device is the same 2.0 QWERTY slider already announced for Europe and set to run exclusively on Telus’ new 3G+ network in Canada sometime in early 2010. Unfortunately, that means no Google Navigation unlike those pesky North American neighbors to the south. Hmm, in that case maybe you should just wait for the beefier Sholes Tablet expected in Q1 — just sayin’.
