Dell introduces $339 G2410H 24-inch 1080p LCD monitor, we go hands-on

Just over a year ago, Dell pushed out its latest and greatest 24-incher, the energy-sipping G2410. Today, the Round Rock powerhouse has introduced that very unit’s successor (complete with a height adjustable stand), the G2410H. Still sized at 24-inches, this 1080p LCD monitor sports a variety of eco-modes, 5 millisecond response time, 160-degree (horizontal) / 170-degree (vertical) viewing angles, a native 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, ambient light sensor, 250 nits of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and DVI / VGA inputs. We’ve had one in-house for around a week now, and for $339, it’s not a bad replacement to that 21-inch CRT that’s still weighing heavily on your desk. It’s not as sharp and brilliant as the (admittedly more expensive) UltraSharp U2711, but it was certainly clear enough for the average home user. It’s shipping now if you just can’t resist.

iPad pre-order is go — will you buy one?

var digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/apple/iPad_ready_for_pre_order_will_you_buy_one’; After years of rumor and speculation, Apple’s now taking orders for its iPad tablet. And now that cash money is involved we’ll finally see if Apple has a success on its hands by filling the void between smartphones and netbooks/laptops — something Microsoft and its hoard of vendors just haven’t been able to muster. Today’s order is delivered on April 3rd (in the US) for free and orders are limited to two per customer. But rather than wait for analysts and Apple’s financial reports to tell the tale, let’s get a jump on things with an informal poll: are you ordering the iPad?

iPad orders start at 8:30AM tomorrow morning

We knew iPad pre-orders were starting tomorrow, but now we know exactly when all you lovable crazies have to stumble out of bed and transmit your credit card numbers to Steve’s brain: 8:30AM ET, or 5:30AM on the West Coast. We generally recommend a bed shaker alarm clock, but hey, let’s not pretend we haven’t all turned a few long nights into tomorrow with our old friends Jackie D and Mistakes. See you on the other side, chochachos.

Motorola Backflip now on sale at AT&T

Heads-up, kids — AT&T’s first-ever slice of Android is now available. Just let that sink in a minute. Feels good, doesn’t it? Motorola’s Backflip has gone on sale just as promised, and that debatably awesome Blur action can be yours for $99.99 after mail-in rebate and a 2-year agreement. So, you pulling the trigger, or you are you waiting for whatever Dell and / or HTC are bringing to the party?

[Thanks, mittens]

MSI’s Wind U160 netbook up for grabs in the US

Got a hankering for Pine Trail? We attest to a certain weakness ourselves, and now MSI’s Wind U160 netbook is on sale for $380 to fulfill your Atom N450 snacking needs. We were intrigued by the little laptop when we played with it back at CES, particularly if its standard 6-cell battery hump can really produce the quoted 14 hours of life. For whatever reason Newegg and Buy.com are showing now-shipping right now, while Amazon’s lagging with pre-orders only at this point, but we’re sure you’ll make the right retail choice, whatever happens.

Lenovo’s IdeaPad Y460 now on sale, and not a moment too soon

Lenovo may have introduced four billion new laptops at CES this year, but that’s not keeping us from tracking the ship date of every last one. With Intel’s mobile Core i5 still tough to find in shipping machines — particularly ones that could substitute as your work rig — we couldn’t be happier to see the IdeaPad Y460 up for order at the outfit’s webstore. The base unit gets going at $999 and includes a 2.13GHz Core i3-330M CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit), 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 14-inch LED-backlit display (1,366 x 768), a 320GB hard drive, 6-cell battery and a dual-layer DVD writer. The $1,199 model, though, is clearly where it’s at, with a 2.4GHz Core i5-520M, ATI’s Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (1GB) GPU and a 500GB HDD to make things interesting. Both units should ship within a fortnight, so the only question left to answer is why you’re still dilly-dallying around.

[Thanks, OberCFS]

Intel’s six-core Core i7-980X Extreme Edition ‘Gulftown’ chip goes on sale in Germany

Intel’s existing line of Core chips just not potent enough for your tastes? Sicko. For those who just can’t sleep without longing for the next best thing, it seems that said “thing” is just a few days away from a proper reveal. Germany’s own Alternate has already listed Intel’s six-core Core i7-980X Extreme Edition chip for sale, enabling moneyed consumers to snap up a piece of Gulftown for the princely sum of €1,049 ($1,430). Yeah, that’s a stiff premium for a six-core chip that’s ready to do more than sit snugly within some under-appreciated server box, but do you have any idea how much more bodacious you’ll be than your dual- and quad-core owning contemporaries? Way.

[Thanks, Peter]
